Daz & Tom

Just finished some radio work, this time with the vocal talents of Kevin Bishop a.k.a Jim Hawkins from Muppet Treasure Island. Some of the less cultured among may not have not seen this masterpiece, if not, do so.

Good news, we have been kept on for another two weeks and what better way to celebrate than at the Ogilvy 60th Birthday Bash. A great night with plenty of drinking, mainly due to the free bar which is definitely a placement teams best friend.

Graduands? No no no, we are Graduates. We had hats and everything. So we are now officially unemployed bums, which is pretty much what we both always aspired to. The event took place in Lincoln Cathedral, which made it feel a bit special and everyone celebrated the end of Uni into the wee small hours.

Our placement with Ogilvy has been extended for two weeks. We?ve been getting work out which is great and we are very much enjoying our time there. **Update** 10 09 08 Two more weeks at Ogilvy.

After recording during the day it was off to YCN Live in the evening to see our three campaigns that were commended in the YCN awards. They were displayed on a huge digital screen along with other winners from Uni who were also there. Which along with a free bar meant a great opportunity for a few beers and a catch up.

We recorded our first radio ad in London this week. Going to a studio for the first time was a brilliant experience. We were using the vocal talents of Dean Lennox Kelly of 'Shameless' fame.

Working at Ogilvy took us to West Ham Utd this week for a private tour around the ground. Work is hard!

15 08 08
We are now officially members of East17. No not the band? HAHAHA! Yes we are now residents of Walthamstow, we have a house that could do with a lick of paint but nothing the combined talents of Daz and Tom can?t handle.

Good news! A book crit at Ogilvy has resulted in a 4 week placement starting on Monday. Neither of us ever thought we'd be working at Canary Warf but to be honest we never know what to expect next at the moment. We've decided that because of this it is no longer sensible to stay in Lincoln, so we are now looking for a flat in London.

18 07 08
On the train back from another busy week in London. We've had a few book crits including one with Paul Belford which was scary and brilliant at the same time. Positive responses though, with the main task being to take the folio further now the restraints of Uni have been lifted. So we've just got to knuckle down and concentrate on the...oh wait... the snack trolleys on its way, bye.

Right we're now completely finished at WCRS and it was a fantastic experience, we got to work on a number of big accounts from cars to cereal bars. Everyone was very friendly and we felt our time there was hugely beneficial. We learnt a lot especially on how an agency is run, which is something you don't learn at Uni. The main lesson we have learnt regarding our work is to keep the idea and the message simple, with that in mind we'll finish simply by saying thank you WCRS.

p.s Eagle eyed Daz fanatics may have seen him at 1.58 in a recent tour around the WCRS offices for Campaign, hosted by creative director Luke Williamson. Click here to see it again.

Degree results are in and we are very pleased to say that we both passed with First Class Honours. We are both at different ends of the country at the moment so unfortunately a celebratory drink has not yet been had. We are in London next week though, so a swift half is in order if anyone's in town? We would like to thank our lecturers Mike Belton, Justin Tagg, Mike Murphy and Course Leader Gyles Lingwood (who you can see beautifully modeling our graduation robe) for all their help throughout our 3 years at The University of Lincoln.

Our time at WCRS has come to an end but not quite the ending we were expecting. Although we are out of the agency physically we are still working on a brief from home. The executive creative director Leon Jaume had asked us to come back to continue work, but a new team is starting, so unfortunately there is not enough room. However, we are very excited to be able to continue working, we'll update on our experiences at WCRS once we've finished completely. For now have a peek at this lesser known 118-118 take on the Honda choir ad that we discovered whilst working on the account.

New blood was an interesting backdrop to our last week at WCRS. Our work looked great thanks to Gyles. We appreciate him arranging that for us while we were away. Our business card pile rapidly dwindled, and we met a few interesting people and are heading back to London in two weeks for a few more new interviews and book crits. Also a special thanks to Lucy & Daz from W+K who took the time to come and see us despite having a very busy day.

Fears that our month in London would yield us no celebrity spots were brought to an end yesterday when Brian Blessed sat down right in front of us in a cafe just off Oxford Circus. A relieved Darren was quoted as saying "Meeesa like dis."

09 06 08
We have made it through to the second round of the Sh! Awards held every year by Brahm. The next step involves us being interviewed by the judges in Leeds but unfortunately we are stepping down from the competition because we are currently in London. We are disappointed to miss out on the opportunity but pleased to have got this far.

06 06 08
We are back from a very successful week in London, book crits at IRIS and WCRS have both resulted in placements. We will be starting at IRIS in September the week after we graduate. We'll be starting at WCRS however, on Monday so our London trip has been extended to the end of the month. Exciting times.

That's it, That is it. The degree show has been and gone, it was very enjoyable and described by many as the best ever. Everyone got pleasantly drunk at the private view, but unfortunately woke up the next morning to find themselves in the 'real world'. With this in mind we are off to London next week for a short placement and a few book crits.

21 05 08
We have been interviewed by the University as they wish to profile their 'most successful students'. If they find us as interesting as we find ourselves, we might appear in the graduate magazine at the end of the year.

Daz and Tom the movie is now available. Based loosely on real events, it is the heart warming tale of two Creatives struggling to find the perfect idea and the obstacles they must overcome in order to succeed.

***** "great" - Toms Mum.
***** "I like it" - The man in the pub

Tom and Daz attend a photoshoot for the University's Creative Advertising 2008 show. The theme was to dress up in whatever you wanted to be when you were a kid. Tom went as Herbie, and Daz went as Willie Miller of Aberdeen F.C. fame (ask your Dad!).
27 03 08
Daz keeps up his status as a local celebrity by making his second appearance in the local paper this year. After his first sporting showing, he has now been stopped in the street and asked to list his top 5 iTunes songs for the Lincoln Echo.
26 03 08
Our University's own deadline for YCN has arrived, and some of the artwork will appear on the site once the actual deadline has passed next week along with some D&AD stuff. In the meantime, we're going for a well deserved nap!
09 03 08
Tom has 2 new additions to the house. A couple of Hamsters named Hiccup and Wakeup!!
06 03 08
The nice people at NABs have asked us to pick their March 'Ad of the Month' and we have chosen the 'Music Almighty' campaign for Nokia. Artwork for the beautifully crafted ads will be displayed in the NABs reception throughout March, alongside our equally beautiful explanation as to why we chose them.

Return to find widespread scenes of devastation in Lincoln following the earthquake. London itself missed out on this excitement but still proved a great experience without it. We received a lot of valuable advice from the people we met, so a big thank you to everyone who took the time to see us. Also, Stars spotted throughout the week include Lenny Henry & Tom Baker. Very exciting!
25 02 08
Off to London for a week to attend some book crits along with a class visit to W+K. Be back soon.
